Azerbaijan 2002 - 70-year-old Woman Survives on $11 per month

11/21/2002

The 70-year-old sitting at the end of the bench said she lives alone and survives on a pension of about $11 per month. Originally from the southern part of Nagorno-Karabakh, she comes from a family of "eight martyrs." She is thankful to be healthy and able to climb five flights of stairs every day to reach her room. Her concern is food. "I ate only beans today", she reported. "IDPs die because they are hungry."
