In the environmental wasteland of Sumqayit, some of Azerbaijan’s destitute families and internally displaced people (IDPs) live in dormitory-like accommodations. Refugees International recently visited families in Shafaq, which, like other overcrowded neighborhoods, has housed about 2,000 IDPs for the last 10 or 11 years. The displaced families migrated to Sumqayit after they were forced to leave their homes at the start of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
