During a four-week visit to several regions of Afghanistan and to the three major border crossing points with Pakistan and Iran, Refugees International spoke to hundreds of refugees and displaced persons returning home. While most of the refugees were overjoyed to be returning to their homes and optimistic about the future, RI's main finding is that the international aid programs to promote the economic development of Afghan returnees and their communities are not yet in place. That means many Afghan returnees may soon be destitute, or even displaced, once again.
