Afghanistan 2002

“[My neighbors and I] don’t want to go home. We don’t have land or houses. We used to be farmers and have animals. When the drought first started, we borrowed money from some rich people in our village so that we could live. They took our land when we could not pay them back. We can’t return unless we have money to pay them. We hear that they want to close this camp. We will have to go to another province and look for work. If we can’t find work, then we will beg. We can’t go home.”
