Girls’ schools in Kabul reopened only days after the Taliban fell from power. During the five years the Taliban were in power, this school was a religious school for boys. Most of the girls here were forced to attend secret schools or to move to Pakistan or Iran to have access to educational opportunities. One girl explained, “I was so happy when I could come to this school again. I no longer feel afraid.” The girls were very excited to be in school. The girls study in very uncomfortable conditions, without heat or furniture.
