Pakistan 2002: A Relocated Family from Jalozai Camp

02/05/2002

After interviewing the family pictured here, UNHCR determined that they were eligible to be relocated. Families choose between four different camps that are loosely populated along ethnic lines. There is one Hazara camp and one Pashtun camp, and refugees of all ethnic groups live in the remaining two camps. This family chose Shalman camp in Khyber agency because of its proximity to Afghanistan. They have been living in Jalozai camp for the past year and are eager to return to Afghanistan in the spring. They, like most of the other refugees RI interviewed, view this relocation as a first step in the repatriation process.
