Hundreds of thousands of Somalis have fled the city altogether, some making the dangerous journey to Yemen, or to the difficult border crossing into Kenya. An estimated 250,000 internally displaced people (IDPs) are settled in makeshift shelters along the road between Mogadishu and the nearby town of Afgooye.
