Refugees International’s board visited the AMI-operated hospital at Mae La camp which serves some 40,000 refugees and thousands of other Burmese who travel long distances carrying their sick from inside their country to obtain needed medical care. The doctors and nurses who staff the clinic know the risks their patients take to reach the hospital, crossing the mountains, wading through streams and avoiding the landmines laid near the border.
