Yolanda recently arrived in Bajito Tumac after fleeing fighting in her home town. In order to settle there, she had to purchase a plot of land from local developers who own the land that the displaced settle on. Yolanda has begun to put up the stilts that will help keep her house dry from the flooding that plagues Bajito Tumac. Until she can finish construction of her house, Yolanda is relying on the hospitality of other displaced people in the community for food and shelter. She has not received any assistance from the government, and laughed off the suggestion that officials in Tumaco would or should help.
