While international agencies such as the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) are working to improve conditions in the camps, the rising tide of displacement and the difficulty of accessing people in need has made this task increasingly difficult. Many camps are falling well short of acceptable international standards for space, sanitation, and the distribution of goods like food and plastic sheeting.
