Southern Atlántico: What's Changed and What Hasn't

A year ago, Alice Thomas, manager of RI's Climate Displacement Program, visited the small town of Manatí in southern Atlántico department in Colombia. Last week, we returned to the area to see what had changed. There were some signs of progress in these flood-affected communities, but many more problems.

Manatí was one of the hardest hit municipalities in southern Atlántico when the Dique Canal burst in December 2010. This banner at the entrance to a temporary shelter site reads: ̏Cheer up, Manatí! Nothing is impossible for God.˝
