Colombia: Record Flooding, Meager Response
Wed, 02/08/2012 - 12:33
Refugees International is on the ground in Colombia, assessing the
impact of the nation's worst flooding on record and the response by the
government and other entities. At the moment, the rains have stopped and
water levels have dropped - leaving the damage exposed for all to see.
Thousands of people in La Mojana region, where we traveled recently,
were overwhelmed by the flooding. With the rains set to begin again in
late April, many are struggling to cope as new municipal and
departmental administrations (in place since January) attempt to provide
assistance and prepare for the next round of floods.
